What you will see inside

The cathedral is divided into three naves with 14 Stations of the Cross cut into the salt walls. The central dome is 27 meters high and illuminated in changing colors. Temperature inside is a steady 14C all year, so bring a light jacket.

Zipaquira town

Above ground, Zipaquira has a pretty colonial square (Plaza de los Comuneros) with cafes and a Sunday market. Worth 30 minutes after the cathedral.

Organized day trip ($35-60 USD) includes transport. Public transport: bus from Portal del Norte station (45 min, 6,000 COP) then a short walk in Zipaquira. Uber return from Zipaquira is around 120,000 COP.
