Caribbean coast (Cartagena, Santa Marta, San Andres)

Warm all year (28 to 32 C), with a dry season from December to April and lighter rains May to November. Peak crowd and price window is mid December to mid January. Shoulder seasons (May, September, October) are cheaper with brief afternoon showers. Hurricanes rarely reach this coast.

Andes (Bogota, Medellin, Salento)

  • Bogota: 14 C average, cool all year, dry December to March and July to August
  • Medellin: 22 C average (city of eternal spring), mildly rainy most of the year
  • Salento and Coffee Region: 16 to 22 C, driest December to March, wettest April and October

Amazon (Leticia)

No real dry season. June to September is the low water period (better for hiking and trails). December to May is the high water period (better for canoe trips deep into the flooded forest). Temperature is consistently 28 to 32 C with high humidity.

Pacific coast (Nuqui, Bahia Solano)

One of the rainiest places on Earth, but rain rarely ruins a trip. Best time is July to October for humpback whale watching. December to March has slightly less rain.
